Louise Smith - Speech & Language Therapy

Louise Smith completed her BSc. (HONS) Speech Language Pathology at the University of Cape Town in 2009. In 2010 she completed her community service year at a rural hospital in South Africa where she managed the Speech Therapy department. From 2011 to 2015 Louise worked for Annalize Gould Speech and Language therapy as a generalist therapist and gained broad and diverse experience in a private practice setting. Here, her work consisted mainly of children in mainstream schools with specific speech and language learning difficulties.

It was in 2015 that Louise discovered her passion for Autism and gained extensive experience working in an Autism unit. She launched her practice and now focuses solely on Autism and related disorders. She works mainly with children on the Autism Spectrum as well as children with significant speech and language delays. She is affiliated to The Hands and Hearts and works within a trans-disciplinary team as this ensures the best possible clinical management and outcome. Louise has been involved in autism-specific training and outreach programs.

She completed her Masters in Speech Language Pathology, in Autism. She has also completed her Makaton training (level 4) and has qualified in PROMPT as well as numerous additional courses, focussing on Autism. She has more recently completed an “Integrated Sensory Feeding” course and has experience in helping picky or fussy eaters. Louise is also currently completing a life coaching course as she has realised the importance of working with the families as a whole and will be implementing what she has learnt in order to help coach parents of children with special needs.

Louise continues to grow her passion for empowering Neurodiverse children through all modes of communication. With 15 years of experience working as a Speech therapist, her commitment goes beyond sessions as she actively engages with families and collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to create supportive environments for these children to thrive.
